The Supported Summer Read project targets Year 6 pupils whose standard of reading makes them especially vulnerable during their transition to secondary school. The main event took place today and consisted of team building, outdoor adventure and reading. The Year 6 students were supported on the day by a Year 9 buddy from their Secondary school who will then continue this support into Year 7. The day was also an opportunity for the Year 6’s to choose 6 books which they will receive periodically over the summer holidays to help maintain their reading age.
