Cedar House residential care home (based in Rothley) recruited a professional musician, Bill Brookman, playing the character “Old Billy” and volunteer members of the Tommy Atkins Folk Band to present a Music & Reminiscent Show/ Activity for the residents as part of The Last Post project on Friday 14th November 2014. The event programme consisted of a 20 minute sing-song with songs taken from the Last Post songbook (including the Last Post), 20 minutes of reminiscences (the performers asked for memories) and another 20 minutes of sing-song to finish off.
During this event the residents also took the musical instruments they had created in a separate craft workshop on Monday 10th November (in collaboration with Wren Arts & Entertainment) for The Last Post project (Make Do & Mend Musical Instruments) and played and shared them amongst themselves in time to the music being played. The performers on the day were very impressed, they became one band, one voice.
