Visualise the rhythms of Loughborough market

Market Town

Market Town

Visualise the rhythms of Loughborough market.

On behalf of RADAR, Loughborough University arts centre, I assisted with the project below. It was a great experience…

#MapYourMarket is designed to share your local knowledge by walking. You are invited to share the story of Loughborough market, starting with your footsteps, to produce a collaborative map. During the workshop you will be given a GPS recording device (a smartphone with MyTracks running). Then you will explore the market – maybe visiting your favourite places or searching for hidden gems– as the GPS device records your footsteps.

Upon your return, be ready to hand-draw your route on a blank map, and share your experience of the market. Throughout the day we will gather and share your stories consisting of GPS tracks, hand-drawn maps and multimedia documentation – using the hashtag #MapYourMarket.

The workshop is designed for a group of 15 participants. We will have 5 GPS recording devices available to use in small groups of 2-3. If you would like to use our own smartphone please download the following app in advance – https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.maps.mytracks&hl=en_GBMyTracks

The workshop is designed for all ages but under 16’s must be accompanied by an adult. To borrow the GPS devices please bring with you a form of ID – either a passport, driving licence or bank card.

#MapYourMarket is part of Market Town, a series of new commissions and critical debate that sets out to re-imagine the future of Loughborough’s high streets led by Radar, LU Arts and Charnwood Arts, in partnership with Love Loughborough and Charnwood borough Councul. The programme is supported using public funding by Arts Council England.
